Day 1

Long Run . Toachi & Blanco Rivers (Class III – III+)

The Ríos Toachi and Blanco are a fantastic introduction to the rivers of Ecuador. Flowing off the coastal side of the Andes they have some of the longest navigable sections of whitewater in the country. Combine this with the sights and sounds of the forest environment we pass through and you are guaranteed a day to remember.

The day starts when we pick you up from your hotel or from our Meeting Point .We travel west down through beautiful cloud forest to the shores of the river. The trip will take about 3 hours.

Before setting off we will fit you with life jackets and helmets, give you a comprehensive safety briefing and train each crew in the paddling techniques needed to navigate our way down the river. Once on the river you can expect both the action of thrilling whitewater and the tranquility of drifting silently through tropical rainforests. So while you’re guaranteed to get wet you’ll also have the opportunity to be absorbed by the sounds of the forest and to see wildlife up close from our mobile “viewing platform”. Rafting time approx. 3½ hrs

During the trip we’ll stop by the side of the river for a delicious picnic lunch including fresh tropical fruits and served with soft drinks, juice and water. Our next stop will be at our hotel to be ready for our next adventure.  Accommodation in Chuquiragua Lodge or similar, Meals L, D

Day 2

Hiking Quilotoa Lake

This wonderful emerald color lagoon is located 66 kilometers south of the city of Latacunga.  Quilotoa is a water-filled caldera and the most western volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. The 3 kilometers (2 mi)-wide caldera was formed by the collapse of this dacite volcano following a catastrophic VEI-6 eruption about 800 years ago,
After a tasty breakfast we will leave our lodge to we will take the Pan-American Highway in the way to the South to start one the most spectacular trips in Ecuador.  Our day begins with a visit to local indigenous market at either Saquisilli (Thursdays only) or Pujili (Sundays only). After that we will drive to Laguna Quilotoa –locates at  approximately 3,800 m – displays a beautiful view of the Andean mountains, passing the ancient canyon of Zumbahua and many indigenous towns and farmlands.  The trip through the villages of the area provide a fantastic chance to see one of the most authentic parts of the country. Our guide will be telling about this place. Weather in the Quilotoa Lagoon is very unpredictable so we recommend being prepared with warm & waterproof clothing.   Before lunch we visit a local indigenous home where you have the opportunity to interact with the locals. We will get back to our lodge to enjoy our diner and rest for the next adventure.  Prepare yourself for a taste of cultural and hiking. Accommodation in Chuquiragua Lodge or similar, Meals B, L, D

Walking in the National Park, you will notice pumice, ash, stone and other volcanic debris amid the tiny paramos plants. This place is known for the Majestic Volcano and the Limpiopungo Lagoon also is habitat of hawks, rabbits, weasels and symbol of the Ecuador “El Condor”
On a day trip to the Cotopaxi National Park it is possible to drive as high as 4500m, then trek up a sandy scree slope to reach the snout of the glacier at 5000m. We will get back to the parking lot and from there you will do ride your bikes downhill until you reach Limpiopungo Lagoon.
