About Us 2018-06-08T16:20:24+00:00

We can offer our guests the most rewarding experience possible by sticking to what we know and do best.

Rios Ecuador is an adventure tour operator specializing in whitewater rafting, kayaking, jungle and hiking adventures. Our philosophy is that we can offer our guests the most rewarding experience possible by sticking to what we know and do best. And we’re so passionate about what we do that we’re out there doing what we love on our days off too. That passion drives a commitment to consistently run the most enjoyable, safest, and highest quality adventure trips available in Ecuador.

Our energetic guide team comprises English-speaking Ecuadorian and international guides who make every effort to ensure you have so much fun you’ll want to come back for more. They are proud river professionals who have been thoroughly trained in the technical aspects of river running, as well customer care, first aid, CPR and river rescue.

Our raft guides and trip leaders meet the standards recommended by the International Rafting Federation, and surpass those required by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Tourism.

Our kayak guides and instructors are qualified by the American Canoe Association. Our jungle guides were born and grew up in the region and our hiking guides are equally at home in the mountains.

Our sales and reservations staff, also English-speaking outdoors enthusiasts, are trained and experienced tourism professionals with first-hand experience of travel throughout the length and breadth of their country. They’re always ready to give you a prompt response to your inquiries and to assist you in designing your itinerary.

Our operations and administrative support staff complement the Rios Ecuador team. As with the rest of the team they are committed to providing friendly service and maintaining our standards of excellence so that your experience with us is one you will recommend to others.

Santiago Cisneros

General Manager

Diversity seems to be Santiago’s motivation when it comes to river running. To that end he’s spent a couple of southern summers down in Chile, and a northern summer in Canada. We think it’s telling that the pull of Ecuadorian whitewater keeps bringing him back. These days he draws on his experience and shares his passion for our rivers overseeing the sales and operations of all our tour.

Jorge Shiguango a.k.a. George of the Jungle

River and Jungle Guide, Safety Kayaker

George has been with us from the beginning and remains a favorite amongst our returning guests. Hailing from the community of Bajo Ongota on the Misahualli River, his knowledge of the natural and cultural riches of the jungle are profound. George epitomizes the reputation Rios Ecuador has earned for our trips – safety and fun for everyone.

Tarquino Yangüez

Senior River Guide, Rafting and Kayaking Instructor

Tarquino is a consummate entertainer as well as a talented guide and instructor. He captained the Ecuadorian team at the World Rafting Championships in the Czech Republic in 2003 and since 2007 has spent his summers guiding in Canada. There’s no doubt – his skills on the river make him an important part of operations on two continents.

Leandro Shiguango

Safety Kayaker and River Guide

That Leandro ended up working on the river is hardly surprising. He grew up right on the banks of the Misahualli – one of the most scenic and powerful rivers in Ecuador – and was introduced to the magic world of river running by his father, Jorge. Leandro loves whitewater, enjoys working with his dad and is studying tourism. After every rafting trip he practically flies out of the bodega so that he isn’t late for class.

Gaston Sanchez

Senior River Guide, Safety Kayaker

Gaston came to us as a safety kayaker and is now a highly skilled and experienced river guide. He’s a dynamo both on and off the river, doing everything possible to ensure everyone has a great time. When we need to crank up the fun factor, Gaston is the man we call.

Manolo Bustos

River Guide

Manolo is an outdoors all-rounder. He is passionate about spending time on the river but can just as likely be found rock climbing, bridge jumping and mountain biking in some of the country’s wildest terrain. Manolo loves teaching people about the river and makes a river trip an educational experience as well as the most fun you’ll have in Ecuador

Oswaldo Iglesias (standing)
and Luis Carrillo

These guys have been an integral part of our operation from Day 1. Not only do they know every backroad around and make sure we get guides, guests, rafts, kayaks and lunch where we need to go – they’re the ones that make sure we have icy cold beers waiting for us at the take-out. Salud!
